about

is an orgasmic meeting of painting, mixed media, and iconic symbolism. The paintings live on the surface of the canvas, with heavy brush strokes and foreign matter creating a decadent mix of textures for each viewer to swim through. Think

deliciously embarrassing, digging fingers

into layers of cake

and frosting

and sprinkles.

The fusion of paint and unorthodox elements like beads, found objects, and glitter create an intersection where I explore and unpack religious trauma, womanhood, and the intimacies of my personal experiences.

Themes within the work center heavily on religious ideas and icons, juxtaposed with secular images. They invoke ideas of meeting God under the club lights on the dance floor, hands wandering to touch his creation, souls being condemned to Hell from birth, and worshipping the rosary between a woman's bosom. The paintings explore the duality that comes with being human, both sanctified and blasphemous at the same instant; marrying rhinestones and oil paint, in a depraved union. These images emerge from immediate experiences and distant memories, bad dreams, and deepest desires, each form representing something I've observed, encountered, and contemplated.
